BOOK BIRTHDAY!!!!

Yes, my friends, today is the BOOK Birthday for IMMORTAL WARRIORS!!!!

As you can tell, I am a bit excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, in honor of the wonderful people who helped bring this book to life, here is the acknowledgements page.

Acknowledgements

It is hard to put into words my appreciation for the people who helped make this book a reality. I will do my best, though.

First, of course, my family for always being patient with my weird writer moments. My daughter, Tori, for being an inspiration to me every day. My Love, for bringing a smile to my face, even on my bad days. My Brother and Mike Marlow, for their invaluable military expertise and input. Not to mention their patience with my multitude of questions.

My best friend, Royce, for being there for me, every time I needed him. My personal cheerleader, Shannon Densman, for always having faith in my writing and in me.

My cover models Cooper Coldiron, AJ Davis, Cason Green, Tori Smith and of course I cannot forget the fabulous Kylie McKinnon for getting Cooper and AJ to agree to do the cover. You all helped bring these characters to life.
All the inhabitants of Purgatory for being there to listen and give {{{hugs}}} as needed.

The wonderful Clovia, for her vast knowledge of all things pretty and her honest opinions on my crazy cover ideas. And Jennifer Milligan for her help with making the title visible. ;)

The sweet and amazingly fast beta reader Maer Wilson, you have no idea how much your time spent going over this book means to me.

My Publisher and the Editor at White Bird, for catching my comma goofs and random Point of View shifts I missed.

And most of all my readers. Were it not for you all, this book would still be just a file in my computer.

Thank You

10-31-2012 BLOG HOP!!!

So... I was asked to do this BLOG HOP by my dear friend Evelyn M. Byrne
(Thanks, Lady. ;) )

I had no idea what a BLOG HOP was until she asked me to participate...
(I admit I drove her nuts asking all kinds of random questions, and then I made her read over my answers to make sure I didn't sound like a raving lunatic...)

I hope you enjoy my answers to the interview questions and remember... NEXT WEEK check out my friends, listed below the HOP, and see what they have to say about their books!!!

Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:

1. What is the working title of your book?

IMMORTAL WARRIORS

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

This is actually the sequel to my first book, IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS.

Basically, the characters weren’t finished telling their story in IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS and they bugged me until I wrote IMMORTAL WARRIORS.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

Young Adult, Paranormal

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This is an interesting question. You see, it is hard for me to visualize ‘actors’ to play the roles since I found local teens to model for my upcoming cover and they did such a wonderful job.

But, if I had to pick actual actors I guess they would be as follows:

IVY: AnnaSophia Robb

DARIUS: Wes Brown

ERIC: Logan Lerman

VITUS: Charles Michael Davis

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Ivy Mason and the Warriors must face their greatest enemy and by the time it is all over with, lives will be lost, allies will be made and their world will never be the same.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

White Bird Publications, LLC. Will publish IMMORTAL WARRIORS winter 2012.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

The first draft took about a month and a half… the ‘finished’ manuscript… about six months.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

The Vampire Diaries series by L. J. Smith

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

As I stated earlier, the characters from IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS had more to tell and do… so, they didn’t leave me alone until I agreed to write IMMORTAL WARRIORS.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

IMMORTAL WARRIORS is a ‘new take on an old theme.’ Vampires (or Lamia as I call them), have been written and rewritten many times and in a lot of different ways. My version gives an almost plausible reasoning behind the myths.

IMMORTAL WARRIORS COVER SHOOT

Just a quick post today to brag about the guys and gal that will be gracing the cover of IMMORTAL WARRIORS...

Those of you that follow me on Facebook & Twitter  (and if you don't...go now and do so! ;D)  you may have already seen these fabulous shots from the cover shoot for IMMORTAL WARRIORS this last Saturday.

I am so lucky to have found such talented guys to pose as my main men!And my wonderful girl to pose as Ivy. I wanted to use 'local' teens since this book, along with IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS, are both set in Kilgore, Texas.

Darius & Eric

I was fortunate enough to have four students from Kilgore High School volunteer as my cover models for this shoot.  I know they look serious in these shots, but believe me there were plenty of times we had to pause for the guys (mostly) to stop cracking up... and for the bugs to stop buzzing or crawling on their legs. The four of them were real troopers and stuck it out until I was able to get the shots I needed.

Vitus & Ivy

We had a lot of fun and I expect this cover to really explode off of the shelves!

More shots to come as the release date draws near!!!!

What is Writing to you?

Since writing IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS and it being published, I have had quite a few people ask me why I write or what I get out of it. So, I decided to do a little post to explain my feelings on writing.

To some, writing is something they just do. For others it is something they feel. To me, it is like exercise for my brain and food for my soul.

If I am having a bad day and take time to sit down and write...even if it's just 100 words... I feel better, more focused and almost revived. I've heard people talk about writing 'taking so much out of them'... for me it actually refuels me and makes me feel alive!

I love the excitement of creating something from nothing and then being able to escape into that world.

So, it is not something I just do to pass the time. It is not a silly hobby or a waste of time. It is WHO I AM!

Writing is a part of me just like my hands and feet are a part of me. Sure, I could live without writing ever again... but I would not be the same person I am. I would be an empty being.

Writing gives me joy, it gives me a sense of propose and most of all it is my chance to share a gift with the world.

How about you? What is writing for YOU?

Pre-release Book Signing

Today is my first appearance and book signing. I am nervous and excited all at once. I am so thankful for the owner of The Showroom allowing me to have this event there. The Showroom has a large part in IMMORTAL BEGINNINGS and it seems fitting to have my debut signing there. Below is the text from my acknowledgements page. Wish me luck!

Acknowledgements:

The laundry list of individuals who contributed, each in their own way, to the final product of this book is a testament to how writing a book is never simply done by just the author. It is a collaboration of family and friends.
I guess I should start with my family. First and foremost my daughter, Tori Smith, for always believing in me and giving me strength when I wanted to call it quits. You are my inspiration, Mija. Randy, my Love, my Soul Mate, words could never express my gratitude to you for putting up with my insanity and irrational mood swings through this journey. My brother, for seeing greatness in me when I couldn’t, my grandfather, who taught me to not only love books but to cherish them, my dad, who educated me, from a young age, the merit of a proficient vocabulary, and my mom, for always having my back, no matter how crazy my dreams were.
A special thanks to Tyler Strause for being my first reader and first fan, Robbie Tinney-Green for being a sounding board for ideas, Shannon Densman, my cheerleader from day one, Robyn Roberts-Irving, my favorite English teacher, you taught me the art of crafting a bland sentence into something extraordinary, and Gary Blackaller, my day job boss, for letting me revise and write while at work.
No writer would be where they are without their beta readers. I am no different. Authors, J.A. Souders & K. Edwin Fritz are two of the most talented and honest beta readers on the face of the earth. I’m lucky to have them in my life.
A nod must also go to the Editors and Staff of White Bird Publications, for believing in this book and me.
Last, but in no way least, Absolute Write, Purgatory and its inhabitants. Without this extended family I would have made irrational choices and still be lost in my journey.  Gretchen McNeil & Alice Loweecey, for being the voices of reason and good advice as well as sometimes brutal honesty, I am truly grateful. Tina Dill, Danielle DeVor, Rick Campbell, L K Herndon, Cindy Pon & Tina Moss, for helping me gain perspective and of course, Clovia, for bringing a smile to my face when I didn’t think it was possible.

You all held my hand and cheered me on, helping me to make this book become a dream realized. Thank you.
